AKS removed Azure Linux 2.0 node images on 31 March 2026.

Affected node pools no longer receive supported images and cannot scale using the retired Azure Linux 2.0 base.

Scope: this affects AKS node pools using Azure Linux 2.0. It is not a retirement of AKS or Azure Linux 3.0.

Verified change

Microsoft ended support and security updates for Azure Linux 2.0 on AKS on 30 November 2025 and froze the node image. Beginning 31 March 2026, the node images were removed and affected node pools could no longer scale.

Required action

Microsoft directs customers to upgrade to a supported Kubernetes version or migrate node pools to osSku=AzureLinux3.

Operational consequence

Clusters may continue running existing nodes, but scaling and image-based remediation are constrained and the retired image no longer receives normal security maintenance.
