Microsoft will retire Azure API for FHIR on 30 September 2026.

Customers must migrate clinical-data workloads and API clients to Azure Health Data Services FHIR service.

Scope: this is the retirement of Azure API for FHIR, not the FHIR standard or Microsoft’s newer FHIR service.

Microsoft’s lifecycle register and product documentation set 30 September 2026 as the retirement date. New customer deployments were already blocked from 1 April 2025.

Required action

Migrate data and client integrations to Azure Health Data Services FHIR service, including endpoint, identity and SMART-on-FHIR registration changes where applicable.
