Platform-change brief · High confidence

Microsoft extends the Sentinel management transition to the Defender portal.

The Azure-portal management experience is now scheduled to retire on 31 March 2027, nine months later than Microsoft’s original deadline.

Scope: Microsoft Sentinel is not being discontinued; the management experience is consolidating into Microsoft Defender.

Microsoft has extended the deadline for managing Microsoft Sentinel through the Azure portal to 31 March 2027. The company had previously set 1 July 2026 as the transition deadline.

The change affects the management interface rather than ending Sentinel itself. Microsoft says customers are moving to the unified Defender portal.

Verified facts

  • The original transition deadline was 1 July 2026.
  • Microsoft extended the Azure-portal sunset to 31 March 2027.
  • The underlying Sentinel product continues; the management plane is changing.

Analysis

This is a platform-consolidation event with operational consequences for workflows, permissions and automation. It should not be framed as Sentinel being retired.

Limitations

Microsoft does not publish a complete customer-adoption rate or universal migration-complexity measure.
